There’s nothing quite like having an entire room at the gym to yourself on a Sunday morning. 

I was happy to be a loner in the cardio theatre for a big chunk of my workout this morning. 

The weights floors had a few people,  but still pretty empty.

Lesson learned: always make time for a Sunday morning train!

A Good Day For a Stroll


Since getting back home in the city for New Years, I’ve been able to get back to the gym a bit.  It’s great – Wellington’s not really a summer destination so everyone clears out of the city and places like the gym are empty.  You’re almost guaranteed to get the gear you’re after.  No waiting.  It’s great.

But when the sun comes out, you have to make the most of it – get outside and enjoy the fresh air!

We’ve had a run of good weather recently (except New Years Eve, because this is Wellington and that would have been too easy.  See earlier ‘not really a summer destination’ comment) so we planned to have a walk around to the seal colony at Red Rocks.


There weren’t any seals – it’s the completely wrong time of year (we’d need to be there in winter).  But the walk was good.

Great company. Good views.

Nice start to the day.

Learned a couple of things today, too.

  1. Bees like purple.  Don’t have purple on or around your crotch.  This can lead to very tense moments.
  2. Always wear sunblock.  Always.  And it you think you have enough on, put some more on anyway.
  3. You don’t have to sit down to get sand in your pants, unfortunately. (WTF?  Wellington, you’re a creepy kind of windy).  Also, bonus lesson: you never grow out of it.

Yup.  You learn something new everyday.

Make 2015 Your Play-Thing

Got goals? Resolutions?  You got this!


No, it won’t happen overnight (where’s the fun in that?) but you’ve got a whole year, if you start today.

Get up now.  Do something to take step closer to achieving that goal.  Do it often enough and you’re sorted.

It’s the 2nd here, and I’m 2 days into my sugar-ditching diet overhaul. 
How is it?  I’ll cut you for chocolate – covered almonds. 
I. Will. Cut. You.
But, I haven’t caved.  Baby steps because change takes time.

A Belated Christmas

Hope everyone had an awesome Christmas!  Mine was spent in sunshine with family and wine.  Lots of wine.  So much wine (family will do that to a girl).


I have been itching to get out for a good run but it’s been ridiculously hot and humid here at the parents’ place that I’m pretty sure actually doing it would kill me.  So I’ve settled for plenty of dog walking and dancing with my niece.  Not so sweaty, but waaaay more fun in this weather!

Looking through my Facebook feed, it seems like there are two camps of people these holidays;  the active, and the majority.  So many tramping photos.   Long bike rides.  In-the-gym pose-y instagrams.  And then these;


No kidding.  I’ve seen this so many times in so many feeds.  In multiple forms…


I for one didn’t share it.   No one needs that kind of self put-down.  That’s not constructive.  Ain’t nobody got time for that. 

So, no.  I will not get fat this Christmas.

Back on the Horse

imageI’m back, and just in time for Christmas!

This morning I was forced gently guided to the gym where I got my glorious sweat on.  It was as glamorous as it sounds… but damn I felt good afterwards.

Well, the endorphins did.
Right now I just feel like I fell off the horse.  At speed.  Down a bank.
